Life of Faith Dolls Millie & Elsie Discuss Dresses~

Well, what I have here is a puzzling decision about whether these fabrics will be right for this pattern, which I got from LibertyJaneClothing.com. It isn't as though I bought the fabric with the pattern in mind, so much as the other way round. I'd rather save the fabric for a different pattern, if they aren't right for each other. What do you think?

I know the time period may not be right at all, but if the dresses turn out simply to be a version of an early American dress, wouldn't that be okay? In other words, I didn't necessarily choose this pattern because it was a Colonial gown, but because it was a simple pattern which I could make into stunning dresses if I chose some pretty material. You'll have to imagine the material made up into this dress without thinking about the time period. I could make the dresses a little longer and not add the corset. Maybe put a sash around the waist and some buttons down the front. I actually got some beautiful little Austrian crystal buttons for each dress. You see my dilema!

That's why I'm asking you to help me decide whether to turn this particular material into a dress made with this particular pattern, which I bought online at Heritage Doll Fashions. Sometimes I just can't make up my mind! So if you could help me by commenting on what you think, I'd appreciate it very much.

Blessings...Mimi

  1. You could use the fabric there on your table as a homespun dress in red, gold or green. I'd leave off the crystal buttons. Buttons were wooden or shell. Ruffles or lace if you want.

  2. Thanks, Paula. I didn't think this material looked "homespun" but I suppose the plaid would be. I don't think they have any tiny bone buttons, but I could look. They're just for a little decoration, but I think they'd be pretty. Are you thinking I need to get a different pattern? I have some lace, but a homespun dress wouldn't have that, would it?
